Christian Fournier

Candidate for Director at Large

Christian Fournier began his health and safety career in 2006, when he took a job as a safety manager at Carquest Auto Parts in Rexdale, Ontario. He held a number of health and safety jobs in Southern Ontario before moving to New Brunswick in 2010. By 2015, Christian was working as a safety and training coordinator at Fornebu Lumber Company in Brunswick Mines, New Brunswick. From there, he went on to work as an occupational health and safety consultant at Mount Allison University; an environment, health, and safety operations specialist at Stericycle Canada in Moncton; a health and safety superintendent at Twin Rivers Paper Company in Plaster Rock; and a health and safety coordinator for the Province of New Brunswick. In early 2023, Christian also published a children’s book, Safety Dog and the Adventures of Emma and Ethan: Safety Heroes in the Kitchen.

Christian earned a Safety, Health and Environmental Processes certificate from the University of New Brunswick in 2009. Among a number of other designations, he also holds Canadian Registered Safety Professional certification and is a Certified Health & Safety Consultant. As well, Christian has published health and safety articles in a wide variety of magazines and websites in Canada, the United States, and abroad. 

Currently, Christian is the Regional Vice President for the Atlantic Canada Chapter of the CSSE. He was the recipient of the CSSE’s Safety Professional of the Year Award in 2018 and the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2021. 

Christian’s vision for the CSSE as it moves forward during these transitional times is that it becomes a beacon for resources, networking, and self-improvement opportunities for health and safety professionals. He wants to continue working closely with the organization’s membership to achieve these goals and to improve the CSSE as an organization. He believes that his experience with the CSSE gives him the skills and knowledge necessary to help him achieve this vision.
