The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world, seeks an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist for our office in Ottawa, Ontario. ALPA represents more than 77,000 pilots at 42 airlines in Canada and the United States. The Occupational Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for coordinating the delivery of services provided by the following ALPA Canada Pilot Groups and their Committees including, but not limited to, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and ALPA’s Air Safety Organization (ASO), including Pilot Assistance. They work directly with staff and appointed Committee Chairs to ensure that regular communications with the Directors, ALPA Canada and Engineering and Air Safety, and Committee Chairs are maintained and that the services of the Committees are aligned with the overall strategic aims and objectives of ALPA and its MECs.
They prepare comments on legislative and proposed amendment initiatives pertaining to Aviation Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and may prepare testimony for presentation in Ottawa. Similarly, they represent member interests in industry participation groups such as the Canadian Aviation Regulation Advisory Council (CARAC).
Working with their department management and colleagues, along with members of the ASO, they work to advance ALPA’s policies, initiatives, and goals in the areas of OHS and Pilot Assistance. They also support ALPA ASO pilot representatives on relevant internal and external committees and may assist in conducting meetings between ALPA and industry/government stakeholders on areas of assigned work.
