Kevin Schmidt presented ‘Rocks to Dust – Preventing Workplace Silica Exposure’ on Thursday, June 16, 2022.

The presentation provided an overview of what silica is, it’s history of use, and where it can be found in workplaces, facilities and homes. The presentation addressed the health effects and risks involved with worker exposure to these materials. Additionally, federal and provincial regulations and guidelines were discussed, as well as what you need to know about reducing exposure and preventing illness at your workplaces and projects.

Speaker Bio:

Kevin Schmidt has 16 years of experience in the hazardous materials, industrial hygiene, and safety consulting industry. Spending the beginning of his career in Calgary, Kevin has been in Ottawa for 6 years and is currently Operations Manager at EHS Partnerships Ltd. Ottawa office. Kevin has a degree in Environmental Sciences from Mount Royal University in Calgary, and is a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and Executive member of CSSE's Eastern Ontario Chapter. He has a wide range of experience covering multiple Canadian jurisdictions and has consulted in various industrial, commercial, governmental, residential, and institutional facilities across Canada.
