As Vice-President of Safety and Security, you will be the senior executive in charge of providing strategic leadership and direction to the corporate vision, philosophies, values and goals, and of leading the development and continual improvement of a corporate-wide working culture of safety and security. This will include the implementation and delivery of the safety and security management systems, in line with best practices and regulatory requirements, and a corporate governance structure for safety and security decision-making and authorization.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will create a long-term business plan for the Safety & Security portfolio. You will lead the organization on resiliency planning, working closely with operations on the development and alignment of business unit strategies, plans, systems and projects for emergency and business resumption/continuity (including natural, accidental and criminal or terrorist threats). You will lead the development and deployment of safety and security management programs to provide a corporate framework within which management, supervisors, employees and joint health and safety committees can fulfill obligations.  This will ensure safety, security and effective regulatory services. 

Your degree in Engineering or Business (MBA or other advanced degree preferred), or equivalent, is ideally complemented by one or more of the following designations: Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Fire Protection Specialist, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Construction Health and Safety Technician, Professional Engineer, or Project Management Institute credentials. During your 15+ years of safety and security related experience in progressively senior leadership roles, you will have developed and led major safety and security projects, ideally within the transportation industry, and overseen transportation, engineering, asset and material management, design and construction management, as applied to structures, roadways, facilities and related transportation projects.

You are conversant with budget development, management and control, project management principles and practices. You are adept at leading and directing cross-functional teams and consultants engaged in simultaneous projects, monitoring project activities for adherence to timelines, budgets and performance objectives, and interacting at all levels internal and external to the organization. Familiarity working in a unionized environment would be preferred.  

A thorough knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA) and other applicable federal and provincial legislation and regulations is essential. Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements governing transit services (including rail, light-rail, and bus) to meet provincial and municipal standards and best practices, would be beneficial.
