Job Summary/Purpose:

Based in Toronto, the Regional Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHS&E) Manager for Canada will assist in the development, implementation and execution of the CSA Group occupational health, safety and environmental management system at the Toronto facility and support other facilities across Canada.

 

Do not let the manager title mislead you.  You are the OHS&E leader for Canada.  We are looking for someone who is passionate about OHS&E and acts with a sense of urgency.  You are a do-er who can execute complex projects and assignments with little supervision.  You can influence and guide others to share the same sense of urgency and passion about OHS&E.  You will have a professional attitude with the ability to work independently or in a Team and interact with executives, board members, stakeholders and various levels of staff in a fast-paced environment, remaining proactive, positive, resourceful and efficient. Other key attributes to be successful in this role are independent judgment, strong decision-making and organizational skills, flexibility, and attention to detail. 

 

This position reports directly to the OHS&E Manager - Americas and works closely with Operations

 

Travel is required.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with/lead the implementation and maintenance of the CSA Group OHS&E Management Systems

  • Oversee the development and implementation of site-specific programs including occupational health testing

  • Implement and maintain the day-to-day compliance of OHS&E Programs

  • Provide subject matter expertise, coaching and direction to all levels of the organization in the management of OHS&E

  • Work closely with OHS&E Representatives and Committees to implement programs and procedures

  • Work with operations to conduct assessments with respect to processes, hazards, incidents and injuries, etc. 

  • Recommend corrective measures; undertake and/or coordinate the implementation of site specific action plans resulting from internal initiatives and internal/external audits

  • Develop/coordinate training or educational programs to address OHS&E issues and deliver training

  • Work with internal training groups to ensure training is tracked and easily retrievable

  • Keep documentation and records up to date to ensure compliance with all internal and regulatory requirements

  • Keep abreast of emerging legislation and industry best practices

  • Analyze trends and identify opportunities to control/minimize risk

  • Serve as the lead contact with MOL/MOE inspection agencies as well as, internal and external auditors

  • Oversee Workers Compensation claims management and Return to Work Plans

  • Support CSA Group’s environmental commitments

 

 Required Skills and Experience:

  • Holds a degree/diploma/certificate relating to Occupational Health, Safety and Environment or has equivalent work experience

  • Professional OHS&E Designation preferred

  • Knowledge of OHSA, Workers Compensation, MOE etc.

  • Experience developing and implementing health, safety and environment policies, procedures and practices

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build strong relationships all levels across the organization

  • Strong organization skills and ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Energetic, self-motivated and presents health and safety in a positive and practical manner

  • Strong technical and mechanical aptitude

  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

  • Experience or knowledge of ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and CSA Z1000 Management Standards

  • Ability to travel regionally
