This month's topic: "Driven to Distraction"Presenter: Dave Wallace, Transportation Health & Safety Association Failing to pay attention when driving is one of the leading causes of motor vehicle crashes. Carelessness or inattention even for a second or two can lead to serious and even fatal consequences. Hardly a day goes by without talk or news coverage about crashes caused by drivers talking on cell phones, eating, reading, arguing with passengers, or a host of other activities. Where are we headed? Imagine our roads full of cars driven by people using cell phones, navigation systems, replying to e-mails, pagers, faxes and even surfing the net. The Deputy Administrator of the NHTSA in the US had this to say:
