Applied Risk Communication is a two-day professional development course offered on different dates by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering in major cities across Canada. The course is one of six courses in the Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC) program.

Communication is the key component in every aspect of health and safety, making this session invaluable to every OH&S professional, occupational health nurse, industrial hygienist and the broader risk management community.

Description

This two day course provides OH&S professionals with an opportunity to learn new insights into the role of communication in the management of risks. Participants will engage in robust and challenging case studies; learn and apply new risk analysis techniques; proactively plan communication messages and develop powerful risk management strategies inclusive of communication, including the even larger challenge of managing cultural change. Participants will learn and practice more effective interpersonal communication techniques that can be applied immediately to assist in their risk management challenges and be integrated into their risk management plans. This course builds on the material taught in the Consulting Skills and Obligations and Liabilities courses.

• Risk communication theories • Managing risk apathy and risk "over reaction" • Interpersonal communication skills • Integrating risk communication into risk management plans • Matching risk communication to organizational culture • Introduction to change management • Case study analysis and problem solving

The BCRSP has awarded this course 1.0 CMPs. Completion of this course also count as one elective credit towards the OH&S Certificate at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).
