CSSE Social Networking

CSSE is always looking for new and innovative ways to connect with our members. To this end, we have created online presences on a number of social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Plaxo, which allow us more opportunities than ever to add diverse, timely, and meaningful content for you to enjoy online.

What is Social Networking?

Social networking services focus on building online communities of people who share similar interests and activities. The services have created new ways for people to share and communicate information personally and, increasingly, professionally.

Social networks can be a low-cost way for business and industry professions to expand their contact base, exchange information with other people in their field, and network with their peers in an online environment that is accessible anytime or anywhere there is internet access.

CSSE recently created an informational PowerPoint presentation titled "Social Media & Social Networking 101", which provides an in-depth look at social media and social networking tools and how safety professionals may consider using those tools.

CSSE has several online networking opportunities that you can be a part of:

Facebook

On Facebook, users can join networks organized by city, workplace, school, and region to connect and interact with other people. People can also add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profile to notify friends about themselves. You can become a fan of safety by joining CSSE's Facebook fan page to connect with other fans, interact on the discussion board, catch up on CSSE news, view and post your own safety-related photos.

Twitter

Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send their own messages and read other users' messages (otherwise known as tweets), which are very short, text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length. Subscribe to CSSE's Twitter feed to catch up on the latest CSSE news and receive real-time Annual PDC updates.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a business-oriented social networking site whose main purpose is to allow registered users to maintain a list of contact details of people they know and trust in business. The people in the list are called Connections. Users can invite anyone to become a connection. Also, LinkedIn's Groups Directory allows you to find communities of professionals who share a common experience, passion, interest, affiliation or goal.

Plaxo

Plaxo is an online address book and social networking service that provides automatic updating of contact information. Users and their contacts store their information on Plaxo's servers. When this information is edited by the user, the changes appear in the address books of all those who listed the account changer in their own books. Plaxo is also moving forward with new initiatives to make it easy for you to see what your online friends and colleagues are doing online.
