Applied Risk Communication Skills

This two day course provides OH&S professionals with an understanding of fundamental principles in risk communication, media interest in health and safety issues, techniques in designing and delivering messages to senior management, employee groups, the public and the media and managing strategic change. It also provides practice in communicating on OH&S issues in the context of reporting, advising, representing and training. This course has a strong practical component and builds on the material taught in the Consulting Skills and Obligations and Liabilities courses.

You Will Participate In:

• Communicating OH&S issues in reporting, advising, representing and training
• Analyzing common safety situations to determine optimal communication strategies through the use of case studies
• Providing strategies for managing public outrage
• Improving personal communication skills and demonstrating how to deal effectively with senior management, employee groups and the general public.

Completion of each this course will count as one elective credit towards the OH&S Certificate at British Columbia Institute of Technology.
