CSSE AWARDS PROGRAM

CSSE Awards Program

It goes without saying that CSSE members all strive to make workplaces safer, and some do an exceptional job!! It is our collective duty or responsibility to recognize these individuals. CSSE’s Awards Program has been updated to make it easier to ensure deserving members get the recognition they deserve. The CSSE Awards & Recognition Program is designed to acknowledge service and recognize achievement at all levels of the organization.

The key highlights of the program are essentially as follows – Members are nominated and judged within a Chapter; with Award Recipients at a Chapter Level then being judged across their respective region; and Regional Award Recipients then being judged against each other in order to identify those deserving of National Recognition.

Award for Outstanding Service

The award for Outstanding Service is awarded to CSSE members whose careers have been distinguished by a sustained commitment to excellence in Occupational Health and Safety. Winners of this award must demonstrate their commitment to their profession and to the CSSE at the chapter, regional and/or national levels.

The Outstanding Service Award is presented at the chapter and regional levels. Nominees for the Safety Professional of the Year will be considered from applicants who receive the Regional Outstanding Service Award.

2012 Winner: Ron Allen

Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Professional or Group

The award for Outstanding Achievement is presented to a Professional or a Group for an outstanding achievement: possibly the development of a service; a training course; a tool; or an event – that advances the science or the profession. Winners of this award must demonstrate the impact their achievement has had on their profession, workplace, and/or the CSSE at a chapter, regional or national level.

This is intended to recognize mostly a single accomplishment; though it could also recognize a group (not a person) who has demonstrated consistent outstanding achievements.

2012 Winner: Alain Chenard

Award for Special Project

The Special Project Award is presented for a "one-time" Special Project that advances the profession, provides research and development opportunities, or promotes Health & Safety to the OH&S Community, Employers and / or the community at large.

These are awarded at the level (Chapter, Regional or National) according to the sphere of influence of the Special Project.

How it will Work

Chapter Awards

Each Chapter will strive to identify at least one of their Chapter Members as a worthy nominee for each of CSSE’s three Awards by April 1, 2013.

Members are free to nominate persons in their home Chapter or from other Chapters; though the nomination will be passed along and judged by the nominee’s home Chapter.

If a Chapter receives more than one nomination for an Award, the Chapter Executive will judge the nominations and select the individual who they believe to be most deserving.

All Chapter Award winner nominations will be then passed along to the Regional Vice President by May 1st each year.

Chapters will make the Award presentations at a Chapter function between July and December of each year.

A Chapter’s success at identifying three Chapter Level Award recipients will be a factor in judging Chapters being considered for Chapter of the Year.

Regional Awards

Only Chapter level Award Winners will be considered for Regional recognition.

The RVP will work with a regional Awards Committee; or in the absence of such a committee they will work with the Chapter Chairs to judge all Chapter level Award recipients against each other.

The RVP (with appropriate assistance as described above) will select a Regional Award Recipient; and pass along the names to the CSSE Awards Committee by June 1st of each year
Regional Awards will be presented at a Chapter or Regional function between August and December of each year.

National Awards

Only Regional Award Winners identified each year will be considered for National recognition.

CSSE’s Awards Committee will judge all Regional level Award winners against each other; and select the best of those nominations put forward.

Award recipients will be identified and contacted by July 1st of each year.

National Awards will be presented at CSSE’s Annual Professional Development Conference.
